Physical Structure

Having a structured environment will reduce the ‘visual clutter’ and distraction as individuals with autism could be over stimulated.

Clearly defined areas within the classroom or home will help with personal organisation and independence, for example labelled coat hooks, labelled desks and drawers, and a ‘calm area’ which the young person can go to for a break if required. Breaks can be negotiated using a visual resource.
