Using Public Transport

There are challenges which individuals with autism may experience when using public transport such as; sensory processing difficulties, communication difficulties, organisational difficulties and anxiety.

When children are at school they may become accustomed to taking a bus to school where help is available from the driver or other personnel on board. In this instance, a social narrative can be used to explain what to expect and a set of visual instructions to clearly explain the steps in sequence from getting on board to disembarking.
